I can't lucid dream anymore, so here is how I get ideas these days. When I want to see a painting or hear a poem, I lay down with an iPad mounted above me. And then block out all light and sound by wearing Bose QC35 Noise Canceling Headphones and a sleeping mask. I first listen for each line of a quatrain. They come fast (the moment I put my mask back on). When the quatrain is completed, I then watch my hypnogogic imagery for the painting that goes with that quatrain. That is not as easy as it used to be. I will think the words "I am thinking about thinking." If I don't see an image, I wait until I have a dream about it that night. Or just add the quatrain to my website without a painting to go with it. I accept any ideas from myself that seem to have come from somewhere other than me.

I can't lucid dream anymore so here is how I get ideas these days. When I want to, see a painting or, hear a poem, I lay down on an Oakworks Prone Pillow, and block out all light and sound, by wearing Bose QC35 Noise Canceling Headphones, while making sure the face pillow is pressing against my brow. It has become very easy for me to see painting ideas, and hear quatrain lines this way. I wait for the first word of a line. Then I hear a line. For paintings I watch for faint visions which trigger whole visions. I accept any ideas from myself that seem to have come from somewhere other than me.

I get half the quatrains from ordinary thinking, and half from napping and asking to hear voices telling me quatrains one line at a time. I'm not getting visions for the paintings as easily anymore. So starting with painting #1161, I also have been asking to hear the words of painting titles while napping three or four words at a time. That triggers the painting visions too which match. I accept any words from myself that seems to have come from somewhere other than me.

I get ideas for my paintings from the flashes of hypnagogic imagery I see while dozing or beginning to sleep. It use to happen any time I napped, but lately it's only been working if I ask a specific question. I can also just start napping and ask to hear voices telling me quatrains one line at a time. But lately I don't bother waiting for an actual voice. I just accept any thought from myself that seems to have come from somewhere other than me.

I get ideas for my paintings from the flashes of hypnagogic imagery I see while dozing or beginning to sleep. I have trained myself to snap back awake at the sight of a good idea. I can't lucid dream anymore and I don't remember normal dreams anymore. I get an idea every second or third day this way. I have also discovered, I can just start napping and ask to hear voices telling me quatrains one line at at time with snap backs to awake between each line.

I now exclusively get ideas for my paintings from the flashes of hypnagogic imagery I see while dozing or beginning to sleep. I have trained myself to snap back awake at the sight of a good idea. I can't lucid dream anymore and I don't remember normal dreams anymore. I get an idea every second or third day this way. With lucid dreaming it was once or twice a month. I would prefer lucid dreams so I hope science invents an easy way to have lucid dreams someday.

I get ideas for my paintings from lucid dreams. About once a month when I'm dreaming, I will realize I'm dreaming, and when I do, I then walk around in the dream looking at art on the walls. I usually find many paintings on every wall. By the time one of these lucid dreams ends I usually have one or two good paintings memorized. I always recreate them in pastel on 12 by 18 inch paper. I've been doing this as a hobby since 1986.
